It’s hard to believe that I’ve been here in Philly for just about 2 weeks but in certain ways I feel like I’ve been here much longer. I’m comfortable with the city, having a great time with my housemates and forming some wonderful friendships with people within the program.
Since the last time I posted not much has changed. We finally have cable in the apartment but the wireless internet is still in the works (thanks Comcast). I am still searching for internships but I now have interviews lined up. I have 1 on Monday and 1 on Tuesday and 1 that is TBD. I am very excited to start the interview process because that means I’m one step closer to beginning my internship and really getting in the swing of things here for the semester.
I’m also really enjoying my 2 classes so far. I am taking Education and Difference at Work and Marketing principles. Even though I am not an Education major the seminar is going to be a great learning experience and I believe that I will help me understand and appreciate my education. The marketing class is going to be amazing! We are reading 8 books that each in their own way relate to the field of marketing. I am very eager to learn about the field and begin the process of becoming a ‘marketer’. Right now we are reading a brand new book called “Shift” its by Peter Arden wow is a brand developer/ marketer who lost 236 pounds through smalls shifts in is mindset and recreating his own person “brand”. Its been very interesting and I am beginning to see how I will be able to relate the topics to both the business world and my personal life.
I”m looking at this entire experience as a type of shift. A shift from class learning to experiential learning. I shift from a small town girl to less of a small town girl. A shift out of my comfort zone and become the best young professional I can be in today’s world. With that said….here is what I’ve learned since the last time I posted.
1. I am more independent than I thought I could be. Don’t get me wrong I miss my family and friends in Albion but this entire experiences has allowed and will continue to all me take the time to figure out what I want out of life and what my true direction is.
Here are some photos of the past few days. Today I went to the Liberty Bell and to LOVE Park.
2. There is no beauty like the beauty of Michigan in the fall. I can already tell that I”m going to miss the way fall smells in MI as well as the brown corn ready for harvest in the field.
3. I love being able to put on a t-shirt and jeans. The weather has finally cooled down here enough for me to wear jeans and a t-shirt. There is nothing that compares. 🙂
Until next time hope you learned something 🙂
