Today in Detroit

Today was a pretty fabulous day for Detroit (except that the Tigers didn’t win).

The first big thing…. Whole Foods Detroit is now OPEN for business! Unfortunately I was not able to attend the grand opening but I was keeping close tabs via social media.  The overwhelming support of the community was evident by the pictures posted.  The crowd seemed to be filled with smiling faces and excitement. For those of you who might not know, this is Detroit’s first chain grocery store and it is in the heart of one most vibrant neighborhoods, Midtown. I’m looking forward to stopping by and checking it out in the coming days!

The second big thingD:Hive Detroit turned 1.  D:Hive is an organization that seems to do a little bit of everything for the city. Everything from bar tours, to walking tours to entrepreneurship training, to business pilot programs and everything in between. They have become a hub for all things Detroit.  I frequent their store front on Woodward Avenue just to say hi and see whats new, I check out their Facebook and Twitter feeds daily to find out the best new housing deals, hot new jobs, and best events happening around town.  They are a true asset to the revitalization of Detroit and I hope they continue to thrive and celebrate many more birthdays in Detroit.

It is these celebrations along with all the other positive change that is happening in the city that makes me want to stay and be a part of it.  With Challenge Detroit winding down lots of people have been asking what my next step will be and what I can tell them for sure is that I’ll be in Detroit.  There is too much good happening for me to leave!
